During the pandemic there were periods when swimming pools were open, although understandably, attendance was managed in a highly disciplined fashion. Standing in queues for my supervised daily dip, I was disoriented by overheard conversations that revealed a deeply distorted understanding within my community of how the pandemic was being managed.
This subsequently played out more broadly in civil disobedience, false narratives and the co-opting of the response to feed far right memes.
This drawing reflects the chaos of those times and how, in looking back on the pandemic, an evidence-based common narrative of what took place appears ever further from our collective grasp. In life, the cause of any issue is always much more likely to be a cock-up than a conspiracy.
